It had to happen sooner or later. 2017 sees F1 saying farewell to Bernie Ecclestone as a new era in Formula 1 begins with Liberty Media.

Bernie transformed F1 into one of the largest sports in the world over the last 40 years and will be missed. He was often criticised for not doing more to embrace social media and digital entertainment platforms to reach a wider and younger fanbase, but perhaps that was part of making F1 attractive to a buyer such as Liberty Media.

Under the leadership of Chase Carey we wait to see what innovations Liberty Media will bring to enhance F1 and if the much talked about opportunity in the US market can become a reality.
